Yes, there is a back story ...
One day, I smelled something funky downstairs and went on a mad hunt for the source.
Eventually, I discovered a rodent that had met its early demise at the bottom of my glass carboy. How he got in there is lost to mystery.
Naturally, a proper burial followed (tossed the poor fellow out back) and I set out to clean that carboy within an inch of its life. It was sanitized six ways from Sunday to be prepped for the next brew.
The recipe is Brewer's Red from The Brewer's Apprentice: "[their] play on Rogue Red: Amber red color, light to medium body, good alcohol level, and complex hops character... for those who love hops but want more of a balance in their beer."
My wife (our Webmaster) suggested a name for this brew-to-be, and I asked her to design a logo. Dead Rat Ale was well received at a recent party.
Here are some recipes at The Brewer's Apprentice.
